5 overseas players Chennai Super Kings should target at IPL 2022 Auction

Chennai Super Kings, headed by MS Dhoni, won their fourth IPL title in the UAE final in 2021, defeating Kolkata Knight Riders. The rebound from the Men in Yellow was spectacular after a rare defeat in 2020.

CSK has always been the team to beat in the IPL, and their performance last season further reinforced why they have been so successful every season.

CSK has kept their core of Ravindra Jadeja, MS Dhoni, Moeen Ali, and Ruturaj Gaikwad, but would want to re-sign players such as Faf du Plessis, Dwayne Bravo, Deepak Chahar, and Shardul Thakur.

If CSK does not get their desired abroad players back, we look at five fascinating overseas players that they will seek.

Quinton De Kock

Quinton De Kock cricket player.

De Kock has been one of the most consistent players in the IPL, and he was a key member of the champion Mumbai Indians’ opening tandem with Rohit Sharma. After announcing his retirement from Test cricket, he is now in excellent form and will be available for the full IPL season.

If CSK is unable to secure du Plessis at the auction, de Kock will be an excellent opener with Gaikwad and a fantastic wicket-keeper.

Jason Roy

Jason Roy cricket player.

Roy is one of the most devastating opening batters in the modern game, and his reckless style has helped to revolutionize England’s white-ball cricket. Roy has played for a number of IPL teams, but has never had the opportunity to play a whole season. Roy might have a long run at the top if he joins CSK.

Roy, who has a strike rate of 143.22 in 268 T20 outings, recently smashed a PSL bowling combination that included Shaheen Afridi and Rashid Khan for a stunning 116.

Trent Boult

Trent Boult cricket player.

Boult is one of the best fast bowlers of the contemporary era, and his opening spell has become associated with hitting. When Mumbai Indians won their fifth IPL title in 2020, he was named Player of the Final. He has the ability to get the ball to swing early in the powerplay, which makes him deadly. In 62 IPL appearances, the Kiwi has 76 wickets at an average of 26.09 and an economy of 8.4.

Boult, who was not hired by MI, is on the marquee list, with a starting price of Rs. 2 crore. CSK would aim to purchase the pacer with the IPL taking place in Mumbai this year.

Wanindu Hasaranga

Wanindu Hasaranga cricket player.

Hasranga is one of cricket’s most entertaining all-rounders, particularly in the shorter formats. He’s a full package with the ability to take up wickets and hit those massive sixes. Hasaranga, a leg-spinner, claimed a hat-trick in the 2021 Cricket World Cup.

He has 110 wickets at an average of 15.79 and a 6.39 economy rate in 83 T20s. In addition, he has a strike rate of 136.92 and has scored 979 runs. The Sri Lankan is the type of player Dhoni favors at CSK and may establish a dominant tandem with Moeen and Jadeja.

Rovman Powell

Rovman Powell cricket player.

In the just-finished series against England and the Abu Dhabi T10 League, CSK will be aiming to add a devastating power hitter to the bottom middle-order, and Rovman Powell has demonstrated that he is capable of doing so. Powell is already the next big thing in Windies cricket, with a T20 lifetime strike rate of 133.
